Email from my OU tutor... I really hope this means Email from my OU tutor... I really hope this means I've passed the bloody module; not sure my ego could cope otherwise!
I post a version of this every weekend and I'm not I post a version of this every weekend and I'm not even sorry! 
This morning I woke up at 5am feeling refreshed - for the second morning in a row! I'm still not sleeping through the night, but I've had a few nights recently where I've managed not to be awake for a few hours in the middle, and I'm claiming that as a win. 
I am a morning person; I'd much rather be up at 5 to enjoy the sound of birdsong and a relatively silent coffee, than stay up later at night to get that time to myself after S has gone to bed.
This is my ideal way to start the day and I'm so happy to have woken up before my usual silent alarm, feeling like I've had a good sleep.
Even better: this is the first weekend since October that I don't have OU work nagging at my conscience. So I can sit and read and enjoy my morning.
S has her pottery class later - that's the time when I would usually study. This morning I might even take myself out for a walk instead!

And yes, that really is an unopened Easter egg on the table in the background. It's not even the only unopened egg in the house. I've no idea who this child is but I think she must take after Big S on that front!

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter which does lots of things, including moderating mood and cognition. It's the one we think of when we think of depression.

Our bodies make serotonin by converting tryptophan in the brain. 

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid, meaning we can't make it in our bodies; we need to ingest it. 

We eat tryptophan in foods (such as milk, tuna, chicken and cheese), and our brains use an enzyme called tryptophan hydroxylase-2 to convert it to serotonin.

Tryptophan hydroxylase-2 is activated by Vitamin D. We get Vitamin D either by supplementing, or by allowing UVB rays to interact with a protein called 7-DHC in the skin. 

In short, it goes like this:
Sunlight - vitamin D - tryptophan hydroxylase-2 + tryptophan = serotonin

(obvs this is a very simplified version of events because I'm a simple person and also there's not much point in posting something neither I nor you can understand easily)

This evening S performed at the Playhouse, in a production her drama group had written themselves. This was their first performance since 2019.
When she first came out of her session with a script, she had one line and she really was not up for it. There were tears and we talked about seeing if someone else would say her line instead.
I wrote the line with chalk pen on our bathroom mirror to help her learn it and we agreed she would give it a shot and see how she felt after the next session...
Suddenly a few sessions later she came out with a longer script, and she had four lines to learn!
There were some nerves this afternoon, but we talked about how nerves and excitement can feel the same in our bodies. Once we got to the Playhouse for their final run through, she waltzed on in without a backwards glance... And then of course the whole group nailed the performance!
I'm so proud of her for keeping at it when she was nervous of doing something scary... But it feels like my days of getting cutesy smiley photos of my baby girl might be over.
